Aftercare is provided every day from 12.30pm to 5.00pm.

Parents who wish their children to attend aftercare on a regular full time or part time basis, need to complete an aftercare enrolment form and submit this to Mrs Amanda van der Westhuizen. The children at Aftercare have a specific classroom allocated to them where they are exposed to Art activities, inside toys, books etc.

Cygnet provides a comprehensive sports programme in conjunction with Miss Bronwyn Rae and her local Playball franchise. Miss Rae who is an accomplished sports person in her own right, having represented both provincial and national teams in various sports, adds to the depth of our educational provision by exposing our children to sports coaching and competition.

From Grade 1 there is a more structured sports component which includes sports matches with other local schools. The sports for each term are as follows:

Term 1: Girls netball and boys cricket
Term 2: Soccer
Term 3: Hockey
Term 4: Girls netball and boys cricket.

Grades 1, 2 and 3 have two hours of sport each week, in accordance with the CAPS document. One hour is dedicated to skills development with Miss Rae and the other hour is facilitated by a Cygnet staff member.

We aim to encourage our children to be mindful of the needs of others. Annually the school decides which charities they are to support. Among the charitable and community minded projects that our children support are the following:

  • VUKUKHANYE

Vukukhanye is an isiZulu word meaning “arise and shine”, and reflects the vision for the upliftment of the underprivileged, poor and marginalised people of South Africa.

Vukukhanye was birthed in 2001 in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. We continue to seek to establish relationships and partnerships with those who identify with our vision and objectives. We would love to hear from you; so please contact us if you have any questions or comments.

  • PAVILION CATS

The objective of the Pav cats project is to humanely trap the cats living at the Pavilion Shopping Centre, sterilise them (spay if female, neuter if male so no kittens will be produced), vaccinate against rabies, identify them by clipping one ear, and then return them to the area in which they were trapped. By following the above objectives, the organisation hopes to make the shopping centre kitten-free and to create a stable feral cat population.
